Temple of Bel
The Temple of Bel, located in the ancient city of Palmyra, Syria, was a grand structure dedicated to the Mesopotamian god Bel, a figure associated with creation and fertility. Built around the 1st century AD, it was an architectural marvel showcasing classical and local styles, with a large courtyard and impressive columns. The temple played a central role in religious and community life in Palmyra, a major trading hub. Sadly, it was largely destroyed by ISIS in 2015, representing a profound loss of cultural heritage and history. Restoration efforts have since aimed to preserve its legacy.
