Palmyrene Empire

The Palmyrene Empire was a short-lived breakaway state that existed from 270 to 273 CE, during the Roman Empire’s decline. It was centered in Palmyra, a wealthy city in modern-day Syria, led by Queen Zenobia. She capitalized on regional instability to declare independence, controlling parts of the eastern Roman provinces. Despite initial successes, the Roman Empire reconquered Palmyra, restoring it as a Roman province. The empire's existence highlights a period of fragmentation and local resistance within the broader Roman world.
