Templar of Spain

The Knights Templar was a medieval Christian military order founded in the 12th century, originally established to protect pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land. In Spain, the Templars played a significant role during the Reconquista, the centuries-long effort to reclaim territory from Muslim rule. They built fortresses, provided military support, and helped establish Christian settlements. The Templars were known for their distinctive white mantles adorned with a red cross. However, in the early 14th century, the order was disbanded by King Philip IV of France. In Spain, some Templar properties and legacies continued under different orders, influencing local history.
