Templar of Portugal

The Templar of Portugal refers to the presence and influence of the Knights Templar in Portugal during the medieval period. The Knights Templar was a military and religious order founded in the 12th century, known for its role in the Crusades and for safeguarding pilgrims in the Holy Land. In Portugal, the order played a significant role in the Reconquista, helping to reclaim territory from Muslim rule. After the order was suppressed in the early 14th century, much of its wealth and property were transferred to the Order of Christ, which continued some of their legacy in exploration and Christian missions.
