Tailings
Tailings are the remnants of mined materials left over after the valuable minerals have been extracted. When ore is processed, it yields metals or other resources, while the leftover materials, often consisting of fine particles, water, and chemicals, are called tailings. These are usually stored in tailings ponds or dumps. Proper management of tailings is crucial, as they can pose environmental risks, including soil and water contamination, if not handled safely. Tailings management practices aim to minimize these risks and ensure sustainable mining operations.
