Syntactic typology

Syntactic typology is a way of classifying languages based on their sentence structure. It focuses on how different languages arrange words to form sentences, particularly looking at the order of the subject (who or what the sentence is about), the verb (the action), and the object (what is affected by the action). For example, in English, we typically use Subject-Verb-Object (SVO) order ("The cat eats fish"). Other languages may use different orders, such as Subject-Object-Verb (SOV). Understanding these patterns helps linguists analyze and compare languages worldwide.
