Construction Grammar

Construction Grammar is a way of understanding language that emphasizes the idea that language consists of interconnected patterns, called "constructions." These constructions are learned units—ranging from individual words to whole sentence structures—that carry both meaning and form. Instead of seeing grammar as rules applied separately to vocabulary, Construction Grammar views language as a network of these stored patterns used to produce and interpret messages naturally. This approach helps explain how we easily learn and use language by relying on familiar patterns, making communication flexible and context-sensitive.
