Supersonic Transport (SST)

Supersonic Transport (SST) refers to aircraft designed to fly faster than the speed of sound, which is approximately 767 miles per hour (1,235 kilometers per hour) at sea level. These planes, like the famous Concorde, significantly reduced flight times by traveling at speeds around Mach 2, or twice the speed of sound. While SSTs were celebrated for their speed, they faced challenges, including high fuel consumption, engine noise, and regulatory restrictions due to sonic booms over land. Interest in supersonic travel has revived recently with new technologies aiming to address these issues while providing quicker air travel.
