Strategic retreat
A strategic retreat is a planned withdrawal from a position or situation, often taken to avoid further losses or to regroup and strengthen one's resources. This approach allows individuals or groups—such as military forces, businesses, or negotiators—to reassess their strategy and improve their chances of success in the future. Instead of pressing onward in a difficult scenario that may lead to failure, a strategic retreat involves carefully stepping back to create better opportunities or to counteract risks effectively. The goal is to return to a stronger position later on.
