Stokely Carmichael
Stokely Carmichael was an influential civil rights activist in the 1960s, known for popularizing the phrase "Black Power." He initially worked with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and later became its chair. Carmichael advocated for more radical approaches to achieving racial equality, emphasizing self-determination and empowerment for Black Americans. His ideas shifted the focus from integration to building independent Black institutions. Carmichael's work helped shape the Black Power movement, which sought to affirm Black identity and address systemic racism. He later lived in Guinea, advocating for pan-Africanism and social justice.
