Sgr A*

Sgr A* (pronounced "Sagittarius A-star") is a supermassive black hole located at the center of our Milky Way galaxy, around 26,000 light-years from Earth. It has a mass equivalent to approximately four million suns. Sgr A* is invisible because it does not emit light, but scientists detect its presence by observing the behavior of nearby stars and gas. These objects move in ways that indicate a massive gravitational force, revealing the black hole's location. Understanding Sgr A* helps researchers learn about galaxy formation, evolution, and the nature of black holes.
