Sephardic Jews
Sephardic Jews are a subgroup of Jews descended from those who lived in Spain and Portugal before the late 15th century. After their expulsion from the Iberian Peninsula due to the Inquisition, many settled in places like North Africa, the Middle East, and eventually the Americas. They have distinct cultural practices, including unique languages like Ladino, which is derived from Spanish, and specific religious customs. The Sephardic community has contributed richly to Jewish culture, philosophy, and scholarship, maintaining a distinct identity while also integrating with the broader Jewish world.
