Self-Consistency Theory
Self-Consistency Theory suggests that individuals prefer to maintain a stable and coherent set of beliefs and attitudes about themselves and the world. When faced with new information or experiences that contradict their existing beliefs, people may feel discomfort. To resolve this, they often reinterpret or dismiss the new information to fit their pre-existing views, ensuring their beliefs remain consistent. This helps preserve their self-image and worldview but can lead to resistance against accepting new ideas or facts that challenge their established beliefs.
