Saffron Revolution
The Saffron Revolution was a series of protests in Myanmar (formerly Burma) that occurred in September 2007. It was largely led by Buddhist monks and citizens, demanding political reform and an end to military rule, which had caused widespread poverty and oppression. The movement gained its name from the saffron robes worn by monks. Protests grew after a sudden fuel price hike, triggering public outrage. The military junta responded with violence, leading to international condemnation. Although the revolution did not achieve immediate change, it raised global awareness of Myanmar's struggles and highlighted the people's desire for democracy.
