Riluzole
Riluzole is a medication primarily used to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. It works by reducing the release of certain chemicals in the brain and spinal cord that can damage nerve cells. By doing so, riluzole helps slow the progression of muscle weakness and disability caused by ALS. It does not cure the disease but can extend survival and improve quality of life. Riluzole is typically taken as a tablet and requires medical supervision due to potential side effects and interactions.
