Anterior Horn Cell Diseases

Anterior horn cell diseases refer to a group of neurological conditions that affect the motor neurons located in the anterior horn of the spinal cord, which are responsible for controlling muscle movements. When these cells are damaged or diseased, it leads to muscle weakness, atrophy (wasting), and, in severe cases, paralysis. Common examples include amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). These conditions can progress over time, impacting mobility and daily activities, and they require multidisciplinary care for symptom management and support.
