Retrotransposons

Retrotransposons are a type of genetic element found in the DNA of organisms, including humans. They can copy themselves and insert the copies into different locations in the genome. This process involves an RNA copy of the retrotransposon being made, which is then reverse-transcribed back into DNA and integrated into a new site. Retrotransposons can influence genetic diversity, evolution, and the functioning of genes, but they can also contribute to genetic disorders if they insert themselves into important regions of DNA. Essentially, they are like mobile genetic pieces that can move around within the genome.
