Responsibility to Protect (R2P)
The Responsibility to Protect (R2P) is a global principle established to prevent mass atrocities, such as genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity. It asserts that countries have a duty to protect their citizens from these threats. If a nation fails to do so, the international community has the right to intervene, using diplomatic, humanitarian, or even military means, to safeguard people at risk. R2P emphasizes collective intervention, but it requires widespread support and careful consideration to ensure it does not lead to unnecessary conflicts or violations of sovereignty.
