R2P doctrine
The Responsibility to Protect (R2P) doctrine is an international principle that asserts the duty of states to protect their populations from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity. If a state fails to protect its citizens, the international community has the responsibility to intervene, using diplomatic, humanitarian, or, as a last resort, military means. R2P emphasizes that sovereignty is not just a right, but also a responsibility. It aims to prevent atrocities and ensure that vulnerable populations receive protection and assistance when their own governments are unable or unwilling to help.
