Radioembolization
Radioembolization is a medical treatment used primarily for certain types of cancer in the liver. It combines radiation therapy and embolization—blocking the blood supply to a tumor. In this procedure, tiny beads that contain radioactive material are injected directly into the blood vessels feeding the tumor. This delivers targeted radiation to the cancer cells while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. The aim is to shrink or destroy the tumor, alleviate symptoms, and possibly prolong life. It's often used when surgery is not an option, making it a key tool in cancer care.
