Prominent figures in the Union Army
The Union Army, the northern military force during the American Civil War, had several prominent figures. General Ulysses S. Grant was the commanding general who led Union victories and accepted the Confederate surrender. General William Tecumseh Sherman is known for his “March to the Sea,” which aimed to cripple the South’s will to fight by destroying resources. General George McClellan, although criticized for his cautiousness, was an early leader who organized the Army. Others, like Admiral David Farragut, played key roles in naval battles, contributing significantly to the Union's overall success in the war.
