Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) is a procedure used during in vitro fertilization (IVF) to screen embryos for genetic diseases or conditions before they are implanted in the uterus. After eggs are fertilized, a few cells are taken from each embryo and examined for specific genetic markers associated with inherited disorders or chromosomal abnormalities. This helps parents select the healthiest embryos for implantation, potentially reducing the risk of genetic diseases and increasing the chances of a successful pregnancy. PGT can be particularly useful for couples with a family history of genetic conditions.
