Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS)
Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS) is a laboratory process used during in-vitro fertilization (IVF) to examine embryos for chromosomal abnormalities before they are implanted into the uterus. During PGS, a small number of cells are taken from each embryo and analyzed to identify genetic issues that could lead to miscarriage or genetic disorders. This helps identify the healthiest embryos, increasing chances of successful pregnancy. PGS does not detect specific gene mutations but focuses on overall chromosome health, supporting informed decisions in embryo selection for conception.
