Predictive Coding
Predictive coding is a theory suggesting that our brains constantly generate predictions about incoming sensory information. Instead of just reacting to what we see, hear, or feel, our brains make educated guesses based on past experiences. When we encounter new data, our brains compare it to these predictions. If there’s a mismatch, the brain updates its understanding, helping us learn and adapt. This process is essential for making sense of the world efficiently, allowing us to respond quickly to our environment while conserving mental energy.
