Power distance index

The Power Distance Index (PDI) measures how power and authority are distributed and accepted within a society. In cultures with high power distance, there is a clear hierarchy, and subordinates are expected to defer to their leaders. In contrast, low power distance cultures value equality and encourage more democratic decision-making. For example, in a high PDI culture, employees might feel less comfortable challenging management decisions, whereas in a low PDI culture, open dialogue and feedback are more common. Understanding PDI helps to navigate cultural differences in workplaces, communication, and governance.
