Peshwa Bajirao II

Peshwa Bajirao II (1796–1802) was the last Peshwa of the Maratha Empire in India, succeeding his adopted father, Madhav Rao II. His reign was marked by internal struggles within the Maratha leadership and the empire's decline due to British expansion. Bajirao II faced challenges from rival factions and was ultimately unable to resist British authority. In 1802, after the Treaty of Bassein, he became a pensioner of the British, which effectively ended the Maratha sovereignty. His leadership symbolizes the transition of power from indigenous rulers to British colonial control in India during the early 19th century.
