Parliament Act

The Parliament Act 1911 is a significant piece of legislation in the UK that limited the power of the House of Lords. Before this act, the Lords could veto legislation, effectively blocking bills passed by the House of Commons. The 1911 Act allowed the Commons to bypass the Lords if they rejected a bill for a second time after two years. This strengthened the role of elected representatives in the Commons, making it easier to enact laws without the Lords' consent, thus reflecting a shift towards greater democracy and accountability in the British political system.
