Pap Smear Guidelines
Pap smears, or Pap tests, are important screenings for cervical cancer. Women should start getting Pap smears at age 21, regardless of sexual history. From ages 21 to 29, screenings are recommended every three years. Women aged 30 to 65 can either continue every three years or switch to a combined Pap and HPV (human papillomavirus) test every five years. After age 65, if there’s a history of normal results, testing may no longer be needed. It’s essential for women to consult their healthcare provider to determine the best schedule based on individual health needs.
