Operation Vittles
Operation Vittles was the American-led effort to supply West Berlin during the Soviet blockade from June 1948 to May 1949. When the Soviet Union blocked all ground routes into the city, Western Allies responded by airlifting food, fuel, and other essentials to support the isolated residents. Over the course of nearly a year, planes delivered millions of tons of supplies, demonstrating commitment to freedom and solidarity. This operation not only sustained the people of West Berlin but also marked a significant moment in the early Cold War, highlighting tensions between the Soviet Union and the Western Allies.
