Harry S. Truman was the 33rd President of the United States, serving from 1945 to 1953. He took office after Franklin D. Roosevelt's death and is known for making critical decisions during the latter part of World War II, including authorizing the use of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Truman also initiated the Marshall Plan to aid Europe’s recovery and the Truman Doctrine to contain communism. His presidency marked the beginning of the Cold War, and he played a significant role in establishing NATO. Truman is remembered for his plainspoken style and strong leadership during challenging times.
