Operation Mincemeat
Operation Mincemeat was a World War II deception operation conducted by British intelligence in 1943. The plan involved creating a fake identity for a dead body, which was dressed as a British officer and equipped with misleading documents suggesting an Allied invasion of Greece rather than Sicily. By letting the body wash ashore in Spain, the hope was that German intelligence would discover it and be misled. The operation succeeded, contributing to the element of surprise during the actual Allied invasion of Sicily, which took place in July 1943, and ultimately aided in the war effort against the Axis powers.
