The Double-Cross System

The Double-Cross System was a secret British intelligence operation during World War II designed to turn German spies into double agents. When the Germans sent spies into Britain, the British captured and monitored them, then secretly re-armed and directed them to provide false information back to Germany. This way, the Germans believed their spies in Britain were successfully gathering intelligence, while in reality, the British were manipulating the Germans with fake reports. This system helped mislead Germany about Allied plans, greatly contributing to the success of Allied operations and undermining the German war effort.
