non-permanent members
Non-permanent members refer to the countries elected to serve for a limited time on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The UNSC has 15 members in total: five permanent members with veto power (like the USA, Russia, and China) and ten non-permanent members. These non-permanent members are chosen for two-year terms through elections by the UN General Assembly. Their role is to participate in discussions and decisions regarding international peace and security, without the same level of authority as the permanent members. Non-permanent membership allows for broader representation of diverse countries in global decision-making.
