Neocolonialism and Foreign Influence

Neocolonialism refers to the indirect control or influence that powerful countries exert over developing nations, often through economic, political, or cultural means. In Latin America, after gaining independence from colonial powers, many countries fell into economic dependency on foreign nations, particularly the U.S. and European countries. This influence often manifests through foreign investment, trade policies, and economic aid, which can shape local economies and governance to favor the interests of foreign powers, rather than the needs of the local population. As a result, the region's sovereignty and development can be undermined despite formal independence.
