Najibullah

Mohammad Najibullah was an Afghan politician who served as the President of Afghanistan from 1986 until 1992. He was a leader of the Soviet-backed government during the Soviet-Afghan War and implemented reforms aimed at modernizing the country. Najibullah's administration faced increasing opposition from Mujahideen fighters after the Soviet withdrawal. In 1992, as the Mujahideen gained power, he resigned and sought asylum at a United Nations office in Kabul. After the Mujahideen took control, he was captured and executed in 1996 by the Taliban, marking a significant moment in Afghanistan's turbulent political history.
