Modal Model of Memory

The modal model of memory is a framework that describes how we process information. It suggests three main stages: sensory memory, where brief impressions of stimuli are held; short-term memory, where we actively work with information for a short period; and long-term memory, where information can be stored for longer durations. In the context of general knowledge, this model illustrates how we first notice facts (sensory), hold them in mind (short-term), and potentially recall them later as general knowledge (long-term) based on how well we process and rehearse the information.
