MET values
MET stands for Metabolic Equivalent of Task, a measure used to evaluate the energy cost of physical activities. One MET is defined as the energy expended while at rest, equivalent to about 3.5 milliliters of oxygen consumed per kilogram of body weight per minute. Activities are assigned MET values to indicate their intensity; for example, sitting quietly rates at 1 MET, while running can range from 7 to over 10 METs depending on speed. This helps individuals understand how much energy different exercises or tasks require, aiding in fitness planning and tracking activity levels.
