Mesoamerican agriculture
Mesoamerican agriculture refers to farming practices in the region that includes present-day Mexico and Central America. Ancient civilizations like the Maya and Aztec developed techniques such as slash-and-burn farming and terrace agriculture to cultivate staple crops like maize (corn), beans, and squash. These crops were often grown together in a method known as the "Mesoamerican triad," which promoted biodiversity and soil health. The innovations in agriculture allowed these societies to thrive, supporting large populations and complex cultures by creating surplus food, which facilitated trade and the development of cities.
