Merkel Cell Polyomavirus
Merkel Cell Polyomavirus (MCV) is a virus that can be found on the skin of many healthy people without causing harm. However, in some cases, especially in individuals with weakened immune systems, it can contribute to the development of a rare and aggressive skin cancer called Merkel cell carcinoma. The virus is thought to play a role in the transformation of normal skin cells into cancer cells. While most people won't experience any negative effects from MCV, its association with this type of cancer has made it an important focus of medical research.
