Maharashtra's history is rich and diverse, characterized by powerful empires and cultural evolution. The region was home to the ancient kingdoms of the Mauryas and Satavahanas. In the 17th century, it became prominent under the Maratha Empire, founded by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who fought against Mughal dominance.
