Loyalists (American Revolution)
Loyalists, during the American Revolution (1775-1783), were American colonists who remained loyal to the British Crown. They opposed independence from Britain and supported royal authority, believing that remaining part of the empire would provide stability, protection, and economic benefits. Loyalists included a diverse group of people, including wealthy merchants, government officials, and many ordinary citizens. As the revolution progressed, Loyalists faced hostility and persecution from Patriot colonists, leading many to flee to places like Canada. Their allegiance significantly influenced the social and political landscape during and after the conflict.
