New York Loyalists

New York Loyalists were colonists in New York who remained loyal to Britain during the American Revolution. They believed that staying connected to Britain provided stability, protection, and economic benefits. Many Loyalists were government officials, merchants, or landowners who feared that independence might threaten their rights and property. During the conflict, Loyalists often faced suspicion, social pressure, and sometimes persecution from Patriot supporters. After the Revolution, many Loyalists left the United States for other British territories, seeking safety and to maintain their allegiance to the crown.
