Littoral Rights

Littoral rights refer to the legal rights of landowners whose property borders a lake, ocean, or other large bodies of water. These rights typically include access to the water, the ability to use it, and protection from the obstruction of views and enjoyment of the water. Landowners are allowed to use the water for recreational activities, but they cannot claim ownership of the water itself. Littoral rights differ from riparian rights, which apply to properties adjacent to rivers and streams. These rights help balance the interests of property owners and the public regarding the use of water resources.
