Leukocyte Adhesion Deficiency
Leukocyte Adhesion Deficiency (LAD) is a rare genetic disorder that affects the immune system. It occurs when white blood cells, which help fight infections, cannot stick to blood vessel walls to reach areas of infection or injury. This leads to frequent and severe infections, slow healing wounds, and other complications. LAD is usually diagnosed in childhood and can be managed with treatments such as antibiotics and, in some cases, stem cell transplants. Understanding this condition helps highlight the importance of white blood cells in our body’s defense against illness.
