Myeloid Leukocyte Adhesion Deficiency (also known as LAD)

Myeloid Leukocyte Adhesion Deficiency (LAD) is a genetic disorder where certain immune cells called neutrophils cannot properly stick to blood vessel walls and reach infection sites. This occurs because of mutations affecting adhesion molecules. As a result, individuals with LAD have trouble fighting infections, leading to frequent, severe bacterial and fungal infections, delayed wound healing, and persistent skin sores. Although their immune cells are produced normally, their inability to migrate effectively impairs immune response, making early diagnosis and management crucial to prevent serious complications.
