Latent Tuberculosis Infection

Latent Tuberculosis Infection (LTBI) occurs when a person is infected with the bacteria that cause tuberculosis (TB), but their immune system controls the infection, preventing any symptoms or illness. People with LTBI are not contagious and cannot spread the bacteria to others. However, there is a risk that the infection can become active in the future, leading to TB disease, especially if the immune system weakens. LTBI is often diagnosed through skin or blood tests, and it can be treated to reduce the risk of developing active TB later on.
