Lactic Acid System

The lactic acid system, also known as anaerobic glycolysis, is a way our bodies produce energy during intense physical activity when oxygen is limited. When you exercise vigorously, your muscles need energy quickly. The body breaks down glucose (sugar) without oxygen, generating energy and producing lactic acid as a byproduct. While this system is efficient for short bursts of activity, such as sprinting or lifting weights, it can lead to muscle fatigue due to the accumulation of lactic acid. This is why, after a high-intensity workout, you might feel a burning sensation in your muscles.
