Kronstadt Rebellion

The Kronstadt Rebellion was a 1921 uprising by sailors, soldiers, and workers at the Kronstadt naval base in Russia, who had previously supported the Bolshevik Revolution. Discontent with the Bolshevik government's increasing authoritarianism, food shortages, and economic hardships, the rebels demanded political freedoms and reforms. They called for “Soviets without Bolsheviks,” expressing a desire for more democratic control. The Bolshevik leadership, viewing the rebellion as a severe threat, suppressed it violently, leading to significant casualties. The rebellion highlighted the growing rifts within the revolutionary movement and the challenges faced by the post-revolutionary government.
