Komnenian era
The Komnenian era, spanning from the late 11th to the late 12th century, marks a significant period in Byzantine history, named after the Komnenos dynasty. It began with Emperor Alexios I Komnenos, who revitalized the empire through military reforms, diplomatic alliances, and economic improvements. This era saw the Crusades, notably the First Crusade, which impacted Byzantine relations with Western Europe. The Komnenian period is characterized by a resurgence of art, culture, and architecture, as well as a strengthening of the Byzantine state, despite facing challenges from both internal conflicts and external threats, ultimately setting the stage for future developments in the empire.
