Komnenian Restoration

The Komnenian Restoration refers to a period in Byzantine history during the 11th and 12th centuries, initiated by the Komnenos dynasty. After suffering military defeats and internal turmoil, this era saw efforts to restore the Byzantine Empire's strength. Emperor Alexios I Komnenos implemented military reforms, strengthened the economy, and revitalized the administration. He also sought assistance from Western Europe, particularly during the First Crusade, which helped recover lost territories. This restoration temporarily revitalized the empire, but ultimately laid the groundwork for later challenges, as the empire faced increasing pressures from both internal factions and external enemies.
